[He still didn't really understand what a Messiah was or where people were being delivered to, but he left it at that. The crucifixion also made about as much sense as it had before. He wasn't sure how dying had done anything for anyone else's sins or who was doing the forgiving. God maybe? Athelstan seemed to mostly ask his god for forgiveness... but...]
If he died so you would be forgiven, then why must you always ask for forgiveness again? [He shook his head a bit, that 'your god is so strange, priest' smile on his face again.]
He stayed among his followers after dying? Did he look... dead? [He wrinkled his nose a bit.]
He did not die so that everyone is free to live wickedly as they choose. His blood pays for our sins but it is still by believing in him that we are saved. [ There's a lot that Athelstan hasn't spoken of yet. Perhaps, one day he and Ragnar can go over want of the gospels together and the book of Acts. If they took it step by step perhaps it would be easier to understand than asking questions about pieces. Going through story by story at least Ragnar would be able to see that it was for Gentiles without having to really detail explain the whole concepts.
Athelstan is a monk, a transcriber and illuminator he was not someone who was trained to minister to unbelievers. Not that he wants to convert Ragnar but being able to explain it in a better way would be helpful. ]
No. He was alive but he bore the wounds of the cross, where they had nailed his hands and feet to it and a spear had pierced his side. There was one of his followers that doubted him and so Jesus had him touch the wounds and then he believed but he is forever known as the doubter because he had lacked faith to believe what he had not touched.
