I would normally advise against dealing with someone in the way you must be meaning but do as you will. [ Athelstan for once isn't entirely passive with his aggression.

But as the other shudders he wants to comfort him and it's a struggle to really know how. It's not like with a child where you can pull them in easily for a hug. Ivar would probably sooner stab him than be hugged anyway.

Instead, Athelstan kneels in front of Ivar. ]


Ivar...I cannot fully explain why your father is the way he is. He's careless with those who love him and stubborn and endlessly prideful. One thing, I can promise you is that he cares for no one more than he cares for his children and you are one of his very beloved children.

[ He sighs and he feels as if there is nothing that he can say or do to help and it bothers him. ]

Even if you never see it, he knows when he is wrong and he feels guilt as much as he loathes it. He loves you Ivar.
